Instruction and Assessment
The State Practice test is available for all parents and students to review! You may be aware that the state of California is moving to the new Common Core Standards. This year Concordia students in Grades 3 - 5 will be taking the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) online test this spring. Please be aware this is a field test so the state can “test the test”. No scores will be released to the district, schools, or parents since this is a test of the assessment. Most students will take a test in English-Language Arts and Mathematics, as well as a Performance Task, which requires students to read, answer questions and write a response. Students will utilize a computer to complete the entire test. We will be giving students an opportunity to preview the test by going on line and taking the sample test. Our suggestion is to have your child go on line at home with you to view a simulation of the test at http://sbac.portal.airast.org/practice-test/. It is not necessary to enter any information.
One part of the test requires students to listen to an audio clip, for which headphones or ear buds will be necessary. If your child has a set of ear buds or headphones he or she would like to use, please send them to school during the test window. Please put your child's name on them in order to avoid confusion with similar headsets. Students will begin taking the SBAC test during the weeks of April 14th through May 2nd.

READERS OF THE WEEK
Concordia Elementary School is a community of voracious readers. WE LOVE BOOKS! Each week a different teacher is provided the opportunity to recognize an outstanding student reader as our Reader of the Week. Special 'READ' posters are then created that feature the student with a favorite book. Additional posters are also made for the teacher. The posters are displayed in our school library and on our website for a week, and then they are presented as a keepsake to the featured reader. These beautiful posters are created by Mrs. Christine Kramer, our amazing PTA Library Chairperson. Check out this week's Readers of the Week below.

California law does not allow school districts to charge fees to students for curricular and extracurricular activities. However, due to state budget cuts, schools can no longer afford to fund many of these programs. Therefore, we sometimes request voluntary donations from parents to offset the costs of these activities. However, parents are not required to pay fees or make donations and all students may participate in extracurricular activities regardless of whether or not their parents make a donation. For additional and more detailed information about student fees, please click on the link below ($$$) which will take you to the Student Fees page on the CUSD website.
